It was bittersweet walking around the city and watching people take down their holiday window displays this week. Isn’t it funny how things seem to come and go so quickly the older we get? As I watched, I couldn’t help to think of the verse about our lives being but a vapor. How our days are numbered and our time is fleeting. How we could be here one day and gone the next. It really puts things into perspective when you think about how our lives are merely a speck of dust in this vast universe. And though small and minuscule our lives are, we have a tendency to feel like our problems are these mountains that can’t be torn down. That our challenges are too great to be conquered. And that our issues are too damaged to be pieced together. But once you hike to the mountaintop and see the world from a different perspective, you feel as though you can march back down a new man and overcome any obstacle that’s below. It’s also comforting knowing that we have a Creator who has it all under control and with Him, “we will live to do this or that.”
Yet you do not know [the least thing] about what may happen in your life tomorrow. [What is secure in your life?] You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then vanishes [into thin air].
James 4:14-15 AMP
