Being adopted, the word ‘Mother’ has always had a completely different meaning to me. Anyone can become a ‘mom’, but a mother is a much bigger role. A mother is one who loves, protects, is slow to anger, always forgives, is kind, patient, and always hopes for. Does this sound familiar to you? If 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 came to mind, then you are correct. The verse talks about what the true meaning of love is, and to me, a mother is love.
Everyone always told me, “You will never experience true love like you do until you have a child to call yours” and “A child is the greatest blessing and joy you could ever receive”. To be honest, I always rolled my eyes and just thought every parent said these statements because they had to, or because it was just the right thing to say in front of their kid. I actually became quite annoyed by everyone telling me that I just had to have a child. I didn’t want to hear it.
Now that I have the privilege of being a mother to Brave. My heart has experienced deep, pure, unconditional love. My eyes have cried countless tears of joy, and my mind has been captivated. I now have more of an understanding for the Lord’s love for us. I pray everyday that I will be the Mother that God called me to be. I pray that Bravely Belle will not only see me as her mom, but a role model to look up to, a friend to share life with, and a listener to come to for comfort.
