As I read these words I think to myself, “I wish that was me…” My heart aches as I count the many times and areas in my life in which I have failed. At times, I feel clothed in fault and lowliness rather than strength and dignity. What is meant to be a verse of encouragement and persuasion, leaves me feeling discouraged and disheartened. I find that these feelings usually come at the times when I am struggling with self-worth and trusting other things/people to define my identity, rather the One who created me. I feel this is especially hard for mothers, as we tend to put our entire value in the little hands of our children as if it is their responsibility. If the household is at its best, then we must be at our best. Well, at least that’s how we feel. If I am having a frustrating day, the house will reflect my mood, as well as the children.
I had the privilege of meeting and working with Javi to come together to connect and create. First, I knew Javi and I would get along instantly by his music selection. As we shot in Old Town Alexandra, Javi was prepared with a little Bluetooth speaker attached to his belt so that the music could keep the shoot light, fun, and relaxed. I absolutely love and appreciate when photographers do this. Anyone who spends less than 5 minutes with me, knows how much I love to sing and get groovy with it. Music instantly melts any nerves I may have and brings out my fun, natural self. The shoot itself was incredibly fun and I had the best time getting to know the man behind the camera. I immediately knew that I wanted to continue shooting with him in the future even before I saw the photos, just because he and I work very well together. (Check out my last post featuring more of Javi’s work.)
I saw the finished product. All I could think when I saw the photos was, “Oh dang….Javi’s got talent!”
His work is absolutely beautiful! (As you can see…) I was downright ecstatic over the photos! Javi can do anything from videography to weddings, commercial work to sports photography. You name it, he can do it! Javi and I also experimented with CTO gels which was incredibly fun for me to watch how everything worked and see Javi get artistic and creative.
Javi and I got together last week for a second shoot at the National Gallery of Art here in D.C., and you all better hold onto your hats because this shoot came out INCREDIBLE, thanks to Javi’s keen eye! If you check back next week, I’ll have the big reveal up on the blog.
My blogger bestie, Kait from Basking in Burgundy, was the one who inspired the mix of leather and embroidery. Even though my blogger bestie lives on the other side of the country, she still has a huge influence on my style choices. I love you, Kait!
Be still, My daughter.
Like the waters that glisten behind you.
Though your mind is clouded.
Though your heart is heavy.
Though your soul is thirsty.
Be still in My love.
Find your restoration in Me.
For I have wanted you from the beginning of time.
Come into My arms and breathe.
For I have wanted your heart to intertwine with Mine.
Know my love is greater than any burden you carry.
Know that grace is stronger than any sin or shame.
Know that My joy is more vibrant than any darkness you hold on to.
You are a prodigy of Mine, who was made in My image.
Take hold of that and claim it.
Be still in Me, My daughter.
For I have called you Mine.
Thank you to Javi M Fernandez Photography for these incredible photos! You are one talented photographer! I enjoyed my time with you and I am a huge fan of your work and talent. To book an appointment with Javi for photos you will cherish forever, click here.

10 Easy Ways to Wear Color…
Bright colors always seem to have an estival feel to them. Now is the season to embrace bold prints and bright colors. Color is severely lacking in many wardrobes, which is a shame. Wearing bright colors always seems to change my mood in a positive way. Color is meant to be enjoyed and can reinforce your personal style and pull together your image. Today, I am sharing ten easy ways to add color to your wardrobe.
1.) If you are new to this, start off small and slowly build up.
The best way to do this is by adding a statement piece to your outfit and letting it do all the talking, such as a scarf or accessory.
2.) Explore with the colors you already love and own them.
3.) Trade in your basic black for lighter neutral.
Neutrals can virtually be worn with any other colors and can be paired with another neutral.
Naturals are white, grey, brown, and/or navy.
4.) Choose colors that work well with your hair and skin tone.
No color looks great on anyone. Find 3-4 shades that compliment you and wear them without fear. Color is more than just looking great; it’s about feeling great as well.
5. ) Tone down a bright color with denim.
Denim or navy is a neutral that goes with just about everything.
6.) Colors at opposite ends of the color wheel make very dramatic pairings and hues closer to each other on the color wheel create easy complements to each other to convey a softer effect.
Staying cohesive with your colors scheme is an effortless approach.
6.) Make sure you wear the color and that the color doesn’t wear you.
You don’t want to look like you’re drowning in the color. Choose tastefully and accent efficiently.
7.) The colors you wear from the waist up, matter the most – so make them count!
This will either enhance or diminish your facial skin tone, eyes, and hair.
8.) Don’t limit yourself by thinking you can only wear certain shades of colors in specific seasons.
The rule,” no white after Labor Day”, no longer applies. And you can now rock yellow into the cooler months, as well as darker shades (even black) in the warmer months.
9.) Let nature inspire you.
Do you like the beach? Do you like hiking? Or do you prefer the dessert?
Give your own take on your passion or the things around you that you love to create something wonderful.
10.Try different shades of the same color.
Olive doesn’t look great on a lot of people, but emerald or sage might look incredible on you.
