One of the most popular questions I receive from other mothers is, “How do you manage the blog with kid(s) and how do you find time to take all these pictures?” Well, these fun photos speak for themselves with my little Princess Brave running around her very own “castle” behind me. She was having a blast as we were trying to squeeze in a photoshoot after church. This is what a typical shoot looks like.
As a follow-up question, I was then asked if I ever get discouraged when it comes to blogging. I am going to be very transparent with all of you right now. As I type this blog post up, it is now 4:27 am. Plus, this is day three of not going to bed before 3 am. This is when the house is quiet and I can actually hear my own thoughts. Recent events have put me so behind on the blog that I feel like I am drowning in emails, contracts, editing, phone meetings, etc. I can’t do any work during the day with the two toddlers and I am having a hard time managing my time with them.
I am praying this is just a season and I will be back to a somewhat normal sleeping routine. Normally, I would find the time to catch up on things while the little ones nap or go down to bed. However, with napping becoming far less frequent, time management has become incredibly difficult for me. The disappointment and the discouragement have me wondering what God says on how we should manage our time…
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph 5:15) He has made everything beautiful in its time. (Ecc 3:11)”
These verses make me come to realize that I am not setting myself up for success when I don’t manage my time wisely. I have already removed other activities in my daily routine that were important to me such as playing piano and working out. Both things that I have missed greatly. If you were to ask me what are the three most important things in my life right now, that would be God, my family, and the blog. But why do I still feel overwhelmed when I try to put all of my energy into these three things?
I think the answer to that is that is that I am not putting it in that particular order.
1) God – 2)Family – 3)Blog
If I choose to put God before every thought, and every breath, and every decision, then everything will line up in His will; including the other activities that I so much enjoy but didn’t have the time for. God knows the desires of your heart and wants to give them to you. (Ps.37:4) God knows how much I want this blog to succeed and what I hope for in it. God knows and understands my desire to have enough time spent with my family. God knows how happy I am when I am back to playing the piano. Though these things might not seem important to others, God knows how much it is important to me. If I seek Him and His will first, He will direct everything in His perfect time. In the time we are given, we are to accomplish as much as we can and with everything we do, we should work at it with all our hearts, as if we were working for the Lord. (Col 3:23) I used to have this verse sitting on my desk at work and I’m thinking I need one for my new office (my computer desk). Whether I am using my time to wash the dishes, writing a blog post, or teaching my daughter how to count, I need to do it unto the Lord whole-heartedly.
How do you manage your time? Do you also struggle with prioritizing? If so, what have you found to help the situation?
