How to add a pop of color to your outfit:
A great way to style a little black dress or neutral silhouette, is to add a pop of color for that eye catching effect. When you want your accessories to be the main focal point, make sure that all your pieces flow together nicely. Three simple words to live by while adding color to any outfit, Base, Accent, Pop.
The Base: The base should always stay neutral; black, white, blue, tan, brown, olive, maroon, and so on. For my base, I am wearing this black Calvin Klein dress from Macy’s. (Dress is sold out, similar here.)
The Accent: Your accent can be any accessories you choose, but make sure to separate your silver and golds. For this outfit, my jewelry plays the role of the accent and flows well with the gold details on my Anne Klein purse.
The Pop: After you choose your pop of color, the next step is to determine what pieces you want to stand out. The pop is really the highlight of the outfit. A scarf, a blazer, a statement necklace, a hat, a pair of shoes, or handbag. Whatever you choose, if you’re just beginning to add color to your wardrobe, stick with one to two statement colored pieces and no more. Less is almost always more to keep your look sophisticated and classy.
The base, accent, and pop are also a great reminder that you should only mix up to three colors within each outfit. One of those three colors should always be a neutral and stick to a palette of colors that compliment each other.
