Courageous; brave, fearless, bold, daring.
Beauty; a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.
I will admit, sometimes it’s hard for me to go out in public with no makeup on. Being a new momma means less sleep and dark circles. In the past, I have taken the no makeup challenge for an entire week, including embracing my natural waves and refraining from putting any heat to my hair. During this time I studied what it meant to possess true beauty. After the seven days were over, I was surprised by how much I had grown and learned from the experience. I even felt more comfortable and confident in my own skin.
I think women, in general, spend too much time worrying about their appearance. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to keep yourself healthy and attractive looking, especially the ladies who are married. I think it’s very wrong and unfair to a spouse to let themselves go after the vows have been spoken. But, I have always thought that the most beautiful women are the ones who embrace their own skin and wear little to no makeup. Natural beauty is the best kind of beauty.
Don’t get me wrong, I am a girly girl. I love to get all dolled up and play around with my makeup, hair, and wardrobe. There’s nothing wrong with doing your makeup and hair, but I think it’s important for us to not make it our identity or rely on it to define our beauty. Makeup can be a blanket or a mask that hides insecurities. Notice I didn’t say imperfections. INSECURITIES. To you, that mole or scar may be the ugliest thing on you that you have called an “imperfection” and have tried to hide it day, after day, after day. To others, it may be the beauty mark that differentiates you from a sea of faces. Embrace your uniqueness. When I was in high school, I was a fan of a singer who had a mole/beauty mark on her face that was quite large. I always thought that beauty mark was so beautiful on her. I was sad when she decided to remove it just because she thought it was an imperfection, while I felt like it was the one thing that made her the most attractive.
As for me, I have a few small scars on my face and one decent sized scar from a growth I had to have removed. Do I wish those scars weren’t on my face? Absolutely. But am I going to spend every day trying to hide or cover them? Absolutely not. These marks are a part of me and will be with me for the rest of my life. I might as well get used to it and embrace my skin for what it is.
Now how do we turn insecurity into something you can be secure in? Instead of trying to cover it up, how about showing what you are already confident in? For me, that would be my smile. On days when my appearance may not be on point, I tend to smile more at strangers because it’s a feature that I feel most confident it. If you love the color of your eyes, pull your hair away from your face and show those beautiful eyes of yours. Studies show that people who are most happy about their appearance focus more on their best features instead of their flaws.
Confidence is beauty. Strength is beauty. A confident woman knows she is beautiful just the way she is and does not always need to look her best to display that confidence.
#BeautifulAsYouAre with MOVODE
I recently did something out of my comfort zone and had my photos taken with @Movode with absolutely no makeup on. Mahmoud and Christina, the talent behind Movode, have an incredible passion for creating authentic portraits for everyone to enjoy for a lifetime, but that wasn’t all. They also wanted to reinforce a positive change and to help women, all women, discover who they truly are by taking a bold move and asking the subject to come completely makeup free. Thus began, #BeautifulAsYouAre.
Believe it or not, I am not the most relaxed and comfortable person to be photographed. I tend to overthink my poses, facial expression, etc. But, Movode made me feel as comfortable and relaxed as ever. They guided me, and knew how to loosen me up for the shoot. My experience was more than impeccable. Both are very knowledgeable on how to make your experience one you don’t want to forget and are wonderful to work with!
Take the layers away and embrace the real you.
I am so excited to reveal my makeup free photos to you all! When Movode first showed them to me, I was completely blown away. They are more than I could ever hope for! Mahmoud and Christina had me speechless with their work. The photos speak for themselves on the amount of talent they have….

These are photos that I can pass down to my daughter and teach her the importance of loving your own skin. These photos make me proud. They make me feel worthy. They make me feel courageous! And it is all thanks to Movode!
