Before I get started, I know some people may disagree with certain points when I will share about what’s appropriate or not appropriate to wear to a wedding. I love hearing other people’s point of views, so if you disagree, go ahead and tell me your opinion. However I do ask, that we all be respectful to one another, and any negative comment will be removed. At the end of the day, a wedding is a time to celebrate love and watch two people start eternity with one another.
It’s not your day (nor is it your daughters…)
Remember, this day is not about you so don’t dress like it’s YOUR night. Be respectful with your styling decisions from head to toe. This also applies to the little ones. If your little one is not in the wedding party, don’t have her dressed like a flower girl.
Pay attention to the invitation.
Be sure to show your respect for the occasion by following the guidelines of the dress code.Wedding invitation typically set the tone of how the Bride and Groom want their guest to dress. It’s also a good to pay attention to where the event will be taking place, as this will help you decide the appropriate wedding attire.
Avoid white or anything close to it.
Many brides are deciding to wear beige, ivory, off-white, or even soft hues of pale pink as their wedding dress color. Wedding dresses are not always pure white. Out of respect for the bride, avoid any colors that are relatively close to white. This also applies when attending the wedding shower and dinner rehearsal. White is reserved for the BRIDE only.
Avoid showing too much skin.
Staying on the conservative side when attending a wedding is smart. If you have to ask yourself if a dress is too short or tight, chances are, it is! If you decide to wear a dress that shows off your back, choose a dress with a high neckline. Want to show off your legs with a high slit? Make sure that your dress isn’t too tight or showing too much on top. Make sure that everything is done tastefully and classy.
Styling Tip: 1.) Do not wear anything that will have you keep adjusting your bra. It’s never fun to try to keep things up while on the dance floor.
2.) Never wear anything that exposes the bra.
Absolutely no jeans.
Unless the invitation clearly says that jeans are okay, do not wear them! Do not wear them white. Do not wear them in black. To all men and women out there, do not wear jeans! (Same applies for shorts.) Opt for slacks instead.
This one is easy, however, you would be surprised by how many people attend a wedding with a pullover sweater or yoga pants. This also includes baseball caps or beanies.
Mind your toes.
Again, unless the invitation clearly states that flip-flops are okay, avoid them. Opt for sandals or flats if you don’t want to wear wedges or heels all day.
Q and A’s :
Is it okay to wear black to a wedding?
The LBD has proved itself enough of a staple to these modern times to be totally acceptable to wear to a wedding, especially during the cooler months. Just make sure your LBD is festive enough for this joyous occasion!
Is it okay to wear a sequins dress to a wedding?
This one can be tough. I would generally recommend staying away from sequins and here’s why; I have been to many weddings where the bride’s gown is either covered in sequins or has delicate touches of it. I would even avoid certain metallics as they sometimes appear lighter in pictures. If you have your heart set on wearing sequins to a wedding, be sure it’s tastefully done. Opt for darker colors and choose to mix textures when it comes to styling your sequins.

eShakti is a unique, affordable website and while I was scrolling through their site, I thought this would be perfect for brides to customize their bridesmaid dresses. The bride would have the ability to create, or allow each bridesmaid to create, the exact dress they have in mind. I just wish I knew about this site when I got married seven years ago.
